My 2018 Challenge: A Ring A Day Project

For the past few months I’ve been exploring my jewellery and my passion for design and pattern.  What I’ve come to realise is how much my designs change and develop the more I work.  Even though I’ve been a jeweller for over 20 years now, I’m still excited about the designs that come to me and the exploration of the depths of each design.  I’ve always loved pattern and feel that an exploration into the making and designing of these rings will take me deeper into the possibilities of that process.

So I’ve set myself a challenge.  In 2018 I will design and handmake  a ring every day of the year.   The original rings will be kept for an exhibition at the end of the year, so keep an eye out for details of that later.

Each design will be available to order, and I will custom make your ring in your size.

The patterns, so far, are sawn, filed and engraved by hand.  I’ve been oxidizing the rings to create the blackened effect which really makes the design pop. Sanding the rings after oxidizing is my favorite part of the process, the design is instantly revealed.

I have an idea of how the collection of rings might look, but I also know the twists and turns that can occur on a journey. Who knows what that last ring will look like after a year of exploring my pattern design, and the journey I will have been on to get there.

Here goes!!  Can’t wait for you to join me on this!
